General Studio Information

What is Reformer Pilates, and how does it differ from mat Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates that uses a machine called a Reformer to assist and challenge your movements. The Reformer is a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage, springs for resistance, and adjustable straps, allowing for a wide range of exercises that target strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability. Some moves are similar to Mat Pilates Movements, however through the Reformer there is added resistance which makes it more challenging.

What should I expect during my first class?

Your instructor will explain how the Reformer works, including the moving carriage, springs, footbar, and straps. Don’t worry if it looks complex—your instructor will guide you through everything. The class will likely start with simple movements to familiarize you with the machine and ensure proper form. Expect to learn terms like “tabletop,” “neutral spine,” or “footwork,” as well as how to adjust the springs for resistance. Reformer Pilates is gentle on the joints but works your muscles deeply. You’ll feel the burn in your core, legs, arms, and back without high-impact moves. Movements will be slow and controlled, with a focus on precision and engaging the right muscles. Your instructor will likely correct your form and help you feel the correct muscles working. This minimizes injury risk and ensures you get the most out of the class. You’ll perform a mix of exercises lying down, sitting, kneeling, or standing. This variety makes the workout fun and engaging. Most classes finish with stretches to help lengthen your muscles and relax after the workout.

Tips for Your First Class: Wear fitted, comfortable clothes to avoid getting tangled in the straps or machinery. Bring grip socks, as many studios require them for safety and hygiene. If you do not have grip socks, you can buy them at the Studio before your first class.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions or take breaks as you adjust to the movements and resistance.

Health Conditions and Injuries

Is Pilates suitable for people with injuries or specific health conditions?

Depending on the Injury Pilates can help with healing injuries and preventing you from injuries. If you are in constant pain and simple movements are painful, Pilates is not advised. To ensure you are good to start Pilates we would advise to consult a doctor before starting practice. If you are injured and our Instructors are not recommending for you to do Pilates, you will not be able to join our Classes. For any questions about injuries and health conditions, you can contact us via Mail or WhatsApp to make sure that you are good to go :)

Do I need to consult a doctor before starting Pilates?

If you are injured and unsure if you should be going to Reformer Pilates Classes, we strongly suggest you to see a doctor before coming to class.

Safety and Hygiene

How does Aria Pilates ensure safety?

The last thing we want is for our clients to injure themselves or feel pain in any of the exercises. To prevent this all exercises will be explained in details, help will be offered whenever needed and Instructors can always offer adjustments if a movement is giving you pain or discomfort. Instructors also won't put anyone into a situation where they are likely to hurt themselves because of movements that are too difficult. Whenever a movement is uncomfortable we encourage to let the Instructor know so they can adjust immediately.

How does Aria Pilates ensure Hygiene?

To ensure hygiene our Reformers get cleaned with hygiene wipes after every class and the whole studio is  cleaned every day. It is very important for us to keep Aria Pilates a clean space so that everyone feels comfortable and hygiene is kept to the highest level.
